Hariko is a traditional Japanese crafting technique in which paper is layered and molded over a framework made of bamboo, wood, or a clay mold to form a hollow structure.
It is believed to have been introduced to Japan around the Heian period, and has since been cherished as a folk craft and toy used to pray for health and protection from evil.
Since hariko is made of paper, please note that it may be damaged if subjected to strong force.
Each piece is carefully handcrafted, so slight variations in color, expression, and shape may occur - but we hope you will appreciate these as part of the unique charm of hariko.

張子（はりこ）とは、竹や木で組んだ枠や粘土でかたどった型に紙を貼り重ねて成形する、中空構造の伝統的な造形技法です。日本には平安時代頃に伝わったとされ、以来、人々の健康や厄除けを願う郷土玩具・工芸品として親しまれてきました。

張子は紙で作られているため、強い力が加わると破損するおそれがございます。また、一つひとつ手作業で仕上げておりますため、色合いや表情、かたちにはわずかな個体差がございますが、それもまた張子ならではの味わいとしてお楽しみいただけましたら幸いです。
